Welcome to Inside Meltek! COO and co-founder Mark Bruckner spent more than 37 years with Entergy, a large electric utility in the middle south region of the USA. He lives in Louisiana and is a senior member of IEEE.
Q: What inspired you to found/join Meltek?
A: Meltek is a natural extension of my utility career and engineering training. Since before I was born and until his retirement my father worked with an electric utility and right after college I also started working for a utility. Through those years I could see the business model was changing with more data available, and more emphasis on technical developments for both suppliers and users of electricity, but utilities must generally focus on controlling supply, leaving control of use up to someone else. Meltek is that someone else.
Q: What’s one thing people should know about you?
A: I am proud of being part of Meltek, and partnering with utilities to reward individuals who control their energy usage. As a community we can solve our energy and climate issues, and I see Meltek as part of a much bigger solution.
Our power system is critical to everything we do, but it needs help to be more sustainable, reliable and economical. I am always looking for ways to make our power system better, for everyone.
Q: What are some of your goals for Meltek?
A: I want to provide as much help to as many people as possible. I would like Meltek to expand the services we offer, increase the number of people who benefit from our services, and expand the amount of benefit we offer to each person. I want to offer Meltek users more information to make their decisions and understand the consequences of those decisions, so they can see their own energy use while it happens and see their own carbon footprint in real time. I want to offer them tools so they can easily and immediately adjust their usage no matter what time of day, or where they are located.
Q: What do you hope to bring to Meltek?
A: I hope to see Meltek’s mission remain on providing benefit to users and assure our vision is of a very bright future, full of opportunities.
Q: What is one thing about you that might surprise people to learn?
A: I’m an engineer with an MBA, but my first college semester was paid for with a dramatics scholarship.
